The read
- Wheeler at home with the season on the line is the whole bet — Phillies are clinging to the last NL wild card, four up with six to play, and they are running their ace out there against a Brewers club that clinched the Central back on September 11.
- 2.99 ERA against Dustin May at 4.61, and May is going on short rest after getting yanked early last time out. Milwaukee has nothing left to chase but a 100th win.
- FIPs are basically identical (3.47 to 3.50), so the ERA gap flatters Wheeler a bit, and Milwaukee at 98-58 is still the best team in baseball. Paying -142 is fine, not a steal.
